Limited Slip Differentials (2.0T / 3.8)

   

If you purchased a track or R-Spec car, there's honestly no good reason for you to swap out your stock Torsen LSD for anything else; with maybe one exception. Should you wish to partake in the culture of skateboarding ne'er-do-wells that migrated from boards to automobiles - otherwise known as drifting - you may want to plunk down the cash for the pumpkin. There is a very slim argument for swapping a high-end clutch-type LSD into a hugely serious track car, but in all honesty the Torsen LSD is quite fine even for track.

Now, if you bought a base model/touring etc and you've got a bad case of one-tire-fire, obviously you've come to the right place. One option for you is to simply check Ebay/Junkyards/Forums for a leftover OEM Torsen LSD for sale, they can usually be had for around $700. This is an excellent option because its factory fit, easy install, and best of all, CHEAP!

Unless you are tracking/drifting the car, chances are you will not even notice the difference an LSD will offer if your car didnt come with one.

To get both tires putting down power as equally as possible, here are your options; once again, shop with the reseller of your choice .


- CUSCO 1.5 or 2-way LSD - ($1500-2000)

Cusco is a huge name in drifting; their clutch-type LSD is one of the most recognized in motorsport around the world. Their LSD comes in two flavors; RZ and MZ, and either are configurable to 1.5 or 2-way. RZ and MZ differ in how violent/smooth the lockup engagement is, so if you're drifting, you'll likely favor the aggressive flavor, and you'll go two-way. This is not a recommended LSD for a street-driven car. You will chew the everliving crap out of your inside tire in every turn and your car will shake it's ass loose if you cough too hard; even in the summer. For drifting, it doesn't get any better than this. NOTE: Clutch-type LSDs will eventually eat up the clutch discs over time and depending on how hard you abuse it, you'll be rebuilding the thing pretty frequently.

- Quaife ATB Helical LSD - ($1200)

Quaife is a very well known and respected European brand. The helical-type LSD offers an excellent blend of drivability on the street with aggressive lockup for hard use and also drifting. This LSD is popular with Euro-tuners due to the quality, ease of use and the fact that its entirely livable on the street while still offering the benefits of an LSD. Helical LSDs also offer a far longer lifetime prior to rebuild than clutch-type units.

- Kaaz LSD - ($1100)

The most affordable and arguably lowest-quality LSD available for the car. Kaaz is well loved in the 240sx/Silvia world, and when the 240 guys love something, it's usually cheap and mediocre. Kaaz is no exception. It works, but it probably won't run very long before you need to rebuild the clutch assemblies; you get what you pay for!
